FAQs

About the Eagle Co-op

Q:

Who we are?

A:

Thank you for visiting the EAGLE Homeschool Co-op’s web site. We are a group of homeschool families that meet online and at local area parks and venues for learning and friendship on Thursdays during the school year. We are open to any homeschool family in the greater Reno and surrounding area and especially enjoy helping new homeschool families get connected.

Q:

About the Board

A:

The EAGLE Co-op board consists of volunteers who are dedicated to promoting friendship and knowledge in the homeschool community. We are continually preparing for the next session and need your input and suggestions about classes that would interest your children. Please email your ideas to [email protected] with your ideas. If you need to contact any other board member, see the Contact Page.

Q:

Where does my money go?

A:

We try very hard to have good quality classes that are affordable to our homeschooling families. Most of our classes are taught by moms or dads who have children in the co-op. They charge only the cost of materials for the class.
Some of our classes are taught by vendors. They offer us a class at a price less than you could typically get it if you went directly to them. They give your child an opportunity to try something new.
We also collect a family fee. Some of this money we give to our host church (Cornerstone) in the form of a tithe. They graciously let us use their building for free. We like to give them a small donation to help offset bathroom supplies, heating and cooling costs.
The rest of the family fee goes toward insurance and the website fees and any function Eagle puts on for our families.

Q:

When does the co-op meet?

A:

Eagle Co-op meets on Thursdays between 12:30 pm and 2:40 pm. The day's schedule is listed below. We meet for two sessions per year in the fall from September through November, and in the spring from February through May.

  • 12:30- 1:25 First Hour
  • 1:30-1:40 Announcements in the main Sanctuary
  • 1:45- 2:30 Second Hour
  • 3:00- ? Park Time at Pah Rah Park in Sparks

Q:

Can I drop my children off?

A:

No, this is a co-op. We do not assume legal responsibility for your children. Every child must have one responsible adult on the premises. We do have a sign out the procedure if you need to leave occasionally but normally you should expect to be there.

Q:

What if I have children who do not have a class that I need to be watching?

A:

All children are expected to be in a classroom. If they do not have a class while they have a sibling in a class they will be assigned to Study Hall or Nursery We want to respect the property of Sparks Foursqure Church and honor them by not having children running around the property during co-op hours.

Q:

What can my child do in Study Hall?

A:

The child can bring a book to read, a quiet toy or play a board game. We have a few board games in the room. A volunteer mom will be supervising the Study Hall each hour. This is a great socializing opportunity.

Q:

Can I teach a class?

A:

We are always looking for new ideas and new te achers. If you have an idea and/or a desire to teach please contact our Program Director Edith Duerr by using the contact us page. Teaching a class takes special effort but comes with the benefit of knowing you are contributing to the homeschooling community in Northern Nevada.

Q:

What if my family can only attend one hour?

A:

Eagle families are free to choice how many hours/classes you take. We encourage families who can to stay for the entire class day even if you just take study hall. But the choice is up to you and your famlies needs.

Q:

Eagle Co-Op Statement of Faith

A:

What is a Statement of Faith?

A Statement of Faith makes it clear to potential members what is most important to Eagle, and what Eagle’s values are, which allows them to make an informed decision on whether Eagle is the right co-op for their family.

Eagle’s Statement of Faith

The Bible is the only complete, inspired, and infallible Word of God:

· 2 Timothy 3:16 – All scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting, and training in righteousness, so that the man of God may be thoroughly equipped for every good work.

· Revelation 22:18-19 – I warn everyone who hears the words of the prophecy of this book: If anyone adds anything to them, God will add to him the plagues described in this book. And if anyone takes words away from this book of prophecy, God will take away from him his share in the tree of life and in the holy city, which are described in this book.

There is one true and living God who exists for all eternity in the three persons of the Trinity – the Father, His Son Jesus Christ, and the Holy Spirit:

· Ecclesiastes 3:10-11 – I have seen the burden God has laid on men. He has made everything beautiful in its time. He has also set eternity in the hearts of men; yet they cannot fathom what God has done from the beginning to end.

· Matthew 3:16-17 – As soon as Jesus was baptized, he went up out of the water. At that moment.

· Heaven was opened, and he saw the Spirit of God descending like a dove and lighting on him. And a voice from heaven said, “This is my Son, whom I love; with him I am well pleased.”

Jesus Christ was born of a virgin, died on the cross, rose from the dead, ascended into heaven, and will return to earth:

· Matthew 1:20-21 – But after he had considered this, an angel of the Lord appeared to him in a dream and said “Joseph, son of David, do not be afraid to take Mary home as your wife, because what is conceived in her is from the Holy Spirit. She will give birth to a son, and you are to give him the name Jesus because he will save his people from their sins.” All this took place to fulfill what the Lord had said through the prophet: “The virgin will be with child and will give birth to a son and they will call him Immanuel,” which means, “God with us.”

· Mark 15:22, 25, 37 – They brought Jesus to the place called Golgotha (which means The Place of the Skull). It was the third hour when they crucified him. With a loud cry, Jesus breathed his last.

· Mark 16:5-6 – As they entered the tomb, they saw a young man dressed in a white robe sitting on the right side, and they were alarmed. “Don’t be alarmed,” he said. “You are looking for Jesus the Nazarene, who was crucified. He has risen! He is not here. See the place where they laid him.”

· Acts 1:11 – “Men of Galilee,” they said, “Why do you stand here looking into the sky? This same Jesus, who has been taken from you into heaven, will come back in the same way you have seen him go into heaven.”

All people are sinners in need of salvation and eternal life through belief in Jesus Christ, God’s only Son:

· Romans 3:23 – For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God.

· John 3:16-17 – For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whosoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life. For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but to save the world through him.

· 1 John 4:14-15 – And we have seen and testify that the Father has sent his Son to be the Savior of the world. If anyone acknowledges that Jesus is the Son of God, God lives in him and him in God. And so, we know and rely on the love God has for us.

Registration and Orientation

Q:

When can and how can I register?

A:

We have a tiered registration system:

1st -Board, Teachers and Key Volunteers

2nd -Current Families

3rd -New Families (if you have taken a semester off from Eagle you will qualify as 'new' family')

Our Priority groups each receives two days of registration before general enrollment opens for our new families.

To Register for any class you first but become a member of our website by clicking the 'join' button on the top right of our website.

Q:

Can I change my child's schedule?

A:

The last day to make changes in your children's schedule is Orientation Day. The registrar will be available and able to make changes if there is room in the classes.

Q:

What if my child does not like a class?

A:

You may, of course, remove your child from any class that he does not like. You will not receive a refund for the class because the teacher has already bought the materials for the class and cannot return them. We are sorry but we have found this must be our policy. Vendor teachers also expect to be paid for all students who enroll.

Q:

Can I put my child in a class after it begins?

A:

If a class has room and the teacher agrees you can enroll a child in a class after the class begins. You will pay full price for the class.

Q:

Does it matter what time I show up on Orientation Day?

A:

Orientation is mandatory and will begin at 12:30pm After orientation is a time to sign-up to volunteer in classrooms and to pay for your classes. We do not take credit or debit cards in person so please have cash or checks to pay your invoice. You will receive a final invoice by email before registration day. Each member can log into our website and pay their invoice via credit/debit card. All checks and cash payments need to be made during orientation to our Treasurer. We will also have a laptop available during orientation so you may log-in and pay your invoices.

Q:

What if I cannot make it to Orientation day?

A:

We really prefer if you can all come, especially the new families. If you cannot make it to registration please let us know so we can make other arrangements to finalize your registration and get you signed up for volunteer hours.

Volunteering and Cleanup

Q:

How often do I have to volunteer?

A:

Each family provides one volunteer for their family (mom, dad, grandparent). The number of volunteer hours varies each session based on the number of families we have enrolled and the number of volunteers we need in the classrooms. Every class needs to have at least one volunteer to assist the teacher.

Q:

Where do I sign up to volunteer?

A:

Once Registration closes our volunter cordinator send out and email with instructions on how and where to sign up.

We aslo will meet at Cornerstone (Fourcorners) Church on “Orientation Day” to finalize your registration, pay your co-op bill and sign up for volunteer hours (if you haven't done so already). We are there from 12:30 am until 2:30 pm. This is the last day to make any changes to your class schedule. We will meet the teachers, go over the EAGLE program, and do a tour for new families.

Q:

Who does the cleanup?

A:

We have a volunteer cleanup crew which works with the cleanup coordinator after classes end at 2:30. The crew’s commitment starts at 2:30 and lasts until about 2:50. We are responsible for cleaning up any messes we've created to include sweeping, vacuuming, and cleaning the restrooms in the areas that the co-op uses (in needed).

Q:

How will I know what to clean?

A:

Our cleanup coordinator will supervise the cleanup crew and let everyone know what needs to be done. She will excuse you when it is all completed.

Q:

How long will cleanup take?

A:

Cleanup usually takes about 15-20 min if everyone works together.

Q:

What can I do with my children while I clean up?

A:

They can read or find a quiet activity to keep busy in the foyer or in the sanctuary until the duties are completed. Older children are encouraged to help.
